MEET THE TEAM

DR. ANNE KATHRIN BENDT

Principal Investigator, Associate Director and Scientific Program Manager, Singapore Lipidomics Incubator (SLING).

Anne's research focusses on the translation of mass spectrometry based technologies into clinical applications, primarily for lipids and small molecules. . She serves on the ‘Clinical Lipidomics’ steering committee within the International Lipidomics Society, as Editor for the ‘Clinical Mass Spectrometry’ Elsevier journal, and is Lead of the Lipidomics track for the Mass Spectrometry: Application to the Clinical Lab (MSACL) EU conference, where she is also co-instructor of ‘Lipidomics 101’, the very first short course for clinical lipidomics. Early 2019 Anne co-founded the global initiative ‘Females in Mass Spectrometry’ (FeMS), serving as co-chair.

DR. BALJIT UBHI

Senior Market Development Manager, Life Science Research – Americas at SCIEX

Has over 15 years of experience of applying metabolomics applications in academia and the pharmaceutical industry. Within her roles at SCIEX, she has held technical, scientific, marketing and product management positions. In her spare time, she loves to spend her weekends outdoors going on hikes with her husband and son, enjoying wine, exploring new flavors through cooking, listening to jazz music and road biking!

DR. BRAD PATTERSON

Manager Application and Support Team Leader, ANZ at SCIEX

Brad obtained his Ph.D. in Chemistry at James Cook University in 2003 and has worked as a synthetic chemist using Mass Spectrometry for compound synthesis verification and in Drug Development and Metabolism studies using LCMS for quantitative and qualitative applications.  Brad has outstanding method development and troubleshooting skills and is actively involved in the development of new software with the SCIEX Research and Development group.

DR. FARHANA PINU

Senior Scientist and Programme Leader of the New Zealand Institute of Plant and Food Research Ltd

Farhana completed a PhD on microbial metabolomics from The University of Auckland, New Zealand in 2012. She has contributed to some of the pioneering work on the application of metabolomics in grape and wine research. Her expertise are in the development of system biology (omics integration) tools for different industrially and agriculturally relevant organisms. Farhana is the current President of Australia and New Zealand Metabolomics Network (ANZMN). She is also one of the key organisers of ANZ metabolomics conference (ANZMET) and Asia and Oceania Metabolomics Forum.

PROF. PETER J MEIKLE

Head, Metabolomics Laboratory
Director, Platform Technologies, Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute

Professor Peter Meikle is the Head of the Systems Biology Domain, Co-Lead of the Obesity and Lipids Program. He is Editor in Chief of Metabolites, the official Journal of the International Metabolomics Society. His research has a focus on the dysregulation of lipid metabolism associated with metabolic diseases including obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular and Alzheimer’s disease and its relationship to the pathogenesis of these disease states. This work is leading to new approaches to early diagnosis and risk assessment, and to the development of new lipid modulating therapies for chronic disease

DR. THUSI RUPASINGHE

Field Application and Market Development Specialist in ANZ at SCIEX and honorary senior research fellow at the University of Melbourne.

Thusi obtained her Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry at La Trobe University in 2003 and has worked in industry and academic institutes using mass spectrometry for drug and small molecule analysis. While working in University of Melbourne, she has developed analytical platform based on LC-MS for metabolomics and lipidomics. Thusi has been involved in establishing many scientific networks, such as  ANZMN and ALM and contributed in organizing a number of conferences in metabolomics and lipidomics. She is also an active member in promoting women in science, Females in Mass Spectrometry (FeMS), as well as diversity and inclusion events.
